Don’t Forget to Check Out!!

So when we left for Cotonou on Wednesday, apparently we didn’t mention it to anyone at the convent. On Sunday when we returned, before we even stepped foot on the porch, I heard one of the nuns (I refer to her as the singing nun because her voice is very sing-songy) yell my name from an unknown location. A few minutes later she emerged from the kitchen door, half yelling half inquiring where we had been, why we didn’t tell anyone and why they don’t have our number.

When we cooked dinner we were met by a barrage of relief, annoyance and concern by two other nuns. One nun exclaimed, “Are you trying to kill me?” They went into the city looking for us as well. They knew that the NGO we worked for was near the hospital but they didn’t know the name. I think they thought we were dead. I’m sure they banged on our door a number of times. The singing nun shook her head at us every time she entered the kitchen, which was at least four times. They were very concerned.

Even this morning when the Italian had breakfast, one of the men that work here expressed his anger that we left without telling anyone. I guess we didn’t realize that we had to convey all of our comings and goings. Next time I guess we won’t forget to check out.

I will be sure to let them know that we are leaving on March 1st which is the day that we depart for the AIRPORT!!!!!
