Spa Mariana – Birmingham, Michigan
It is that time of year again, Spa Week (April 15th – 21st). I am not sure how often Spa Week actually occurs, but this is my second time taking advantage of it. Spa Week is when spas across the US offer $50 services which includes massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, the works! You should check the listings for your city as they were plentiful in the Detroit Area.
I have taken advantage of Spa Week before and was severely disappointed but when I saw the listings for this year I knew I had to take advantage. Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s and Spa Mariana were at the top of my list. Because Spa Mariana was offering Swedish Massages, I went with them and made a booking for my mom and me.
The entrance does not have much curb appeal, but once we walked up the stairs I was less anxious. The spa is very clean and very pleasant. We were greeted by Susie who had a calm spirit and offered us hot tea, suggesting we try her favorites. Before we entered to start our massages we sat in the relaxation room and sipped our tea. Our two masseuses came out and we were on our way.
Tiana was my masseuse and the comfortable room coupled with the hot towels and her hands’ expertise transported me to a relaxed mental space. The massage was the best I’ve ever had. To be honest I am not a big massage person but I am sure that this was a great massage.
Following the massage I headed back to the relaxation room and had a glass of water with fresh orange slices and was offered a mimosa, garnished with a strawberry. What a great ending to a fabulous massage. If you are in the Detroit area definitely try Spa Mariana in Birmingham. Just an FYI, they prefer cash and checks. There is a 3% surcharge for using a credit card, which I find ridiculous in the year 2013. Furthermore, I was not informed of this when I made my appointment, which I think is the perfect time to tell patrons.
